BUENOS AIRES, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Colombian striker Miguel Borja scored in second-half stoppage time as River Plate secured a 1-0 home victory over Boca Juniors in a fractious Buenos Aires derby on Sunday.

It took until the 93rd minute for River to break the deadlock as Borja converted a penalty after Pablo Solari was brought down by Agustin Sandez.

The goal sparked a wild brawl involving players and officials from both sides, forcing play to stop for several minutes.

The violence proved costly for River and Boca as referee Dario Herrera issued six red cards, reducing both teams to eight men.

Agustin Palavecino, Ezequiel Centurion and Elias Gomez were sent off for River while Miguel Merentiel, Ezequiel Fernandez and Nicolas Valentini were sent off for Boca.

The result extends River's lead at the top of Argentina's Primera Division standings and they now have 37 points from 15 games, 19 points ahead of 13th-placed Boca.

In other Primera Division fixtures on Sunday, Estudiantes won 2-0 at home to Velez Sarsfield, Newell's Old Boys drew 2-2 at Tigre and Rosario Central secured a 4-0 home victory over Platense.
