MACAO, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Macao's general unemployment rate from January to March decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 3.1 percent from December 2022 to February 2023, the special administrative region's statistics department said on Friday.
The latest report from Macao's Statistics and Census Service said the unemployment rate for local residents was 3.9 percent for the January-March period, down 0.2 percentage points from the December-February period, showed the report.
The underemployment rate dropped further by 0.5 percentage points to 2.2 percent, while the labor force participation rate was 67.9 percent.
The labor force living in Macao totaled 370,800 people from January to March. Total employment fell by 600 from the previous period to 359,300. The number of employed residents totaled 281,200, down by 1,100.
The number of unemployed decreased by 700 from the previous period to 11,500.
Meanwhile, the proportion of people seeking their first job fell 2.5 percentage points to 6.8 percent of the total unemployed.
The number of underemployed dropped by 1,900 from the previous period to 8,000. ■
