MACAO, April 28 (Xinhua) -- The 33rd Macao Arts Festival kicked off here on Friday with an opening ceremony followed by "Rite of Spring," a work of renowned Chinese dancer Yang Liping that innovatively combines oriental philosophy, symbols and aesthetics.
Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government, the month-long festival will also feature "Bonds of Hato," a multimedia full-length Cantonese opera transformed from the harrowing memories of Typhoon Hato, seeking to eulogize Macao people's love for the city.
In the production "On Substance of Time" by the Portuguese Contemporary Dance Company, two internationally acclaimed Portuguese choreographers will transform verses into dance routines, making lives sparkle through the dancers' body movements.
In addition, exceptional productions by top art troupes from Asia, Europe and the United States will be screened through pre-recorded videos.
A series of outreach events, including pre-show talks, lectures, workshops and exhibitions, will also be staged, according to the bureau. ■
