TOKYO, April 24 (Xinhua) -- The Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) is expected to extend its trading day by 30 minutes, starting in November 2024, according to a report by public broadcaster NHK on Monday.
The bourse will update its stock trading system to change its closing time to 3:30 p.m. from Nov. 5, 2024, in a bid to boost its global competitiveness, the report said.
The current trading hours start at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break from 11:30 a.m., which are shorter than those of major markets overseas.
The TSE aims to attract more investors with the change. The TSE lags behind other exchanges in the United States and China in terms of total capitalization of listed companies, the NHK report said.
It will be the first extension to the TSE's trading hours in 70 years since 1954. ■
