Brazilian striker Ademilson's late equalizer handed defending champions Wuhan Three Towns a narrow escape from their second defeat in the 2023 Chinese Super League season.

WUHAN, China, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian striker Ademilson scored a late equalizer for Wuhan Three Towns as the defending champions drew with Beijing Guo'an 1-1 at home in the second round of 2023 Chinese Super League on Thursday.

After losing their season opener 2-0 to Shanghai Port last Saturday, Wuhan started strongly today in the first half but missed several opportunities.

In the 17th minute, Xie Peng's close range follow-up attempt went high, before Beijing goalkeeper Han Jiaqi denied a left footed shot from Nicolae Stanciu.

Beijing stunned the home team in the 62nd minute, when Wuhan goalie Liu Dianzuo made a huge mistake in his own penalty area as his ball was stolen by Yang Liyu who then scored an open goal to break the deadlock.

In the stoppage time, the defending champions finally grabbed an equalizer to avoid a second defeat as Ademilson blasted a shot into the far corner following a direct pass from Stanciu.

Guo'an, who were held 1-1 at home by Meizhou Hakka last Saturday, are still seeking their first win of the season.

Beijing will play away to Qingdao Hainiu next Tuesday, while Meizhou Hakka is set to face Wuhan at home on the same day.
