RIO DE JANEIRO, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Argentinian manager Jorge Sampaoli has been appointed head coach of Flamengo in a deal that runs until December 2024, the Brazilian club said late on Friday.
The 63-year-old replaces Portuguese coach Vitor Pereira, who was sacked earlier this week after less than four months in the role.
Sampaoli, whose 32-year managerial career has included spells in charge of the Chile and Argentina national teams, has been out of work since parting ways with Sevilla in March.
It will be his third time as the manager of a Brazilian club following stints with Santos (2018-19) and Atletico Mineiro (2020-21).
Flamengo will begin their 2023 Brazilian Serie A campaign with a home clash against Coritiba on Sunday. ■
