MADRID, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Real Valladolid have named Paulo Pezzolano as their new first team coach.
The Uruguayan, who turns 40 this month, replaced Juan Rojo 'Pacheta' who stepped down in the wake of Valladolid's 6-0 loss to Real Madrid on Sunday.
That result left Valladolid just above the relegation zone in La Liga, and Pezzolano's first task in the contract that he has signed until the end of June 2024 is to help the club avoid the relegation.
Pezzolano had formally coach Brazilian club Cruzeiro which is also the property of Valladolid owner, Ronaldo Nazario, and this will be his first experience of coaching in Europe. He played for Mallorca in the 2009-10 season.
By coincidence, Mallorca will be Pezzolano's first rival in the Valladolid dugout when they travel to the Nuevo Zorrilla Stadium on Sunday. ■
