NEW DELHI, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Muslims have come together to celebrate the advent of the holy month Ramadan at Jama Masjid, a historic grand mosque in New Delhi, India.

Ramadan started on March 23 in India following the sighting of the moon over Mecca, Islam's holiest city. For approximately 30 days, believers fast from dawn to sunset and engage in nightly communal prayers leading up to Eid al-Fitr, the final day of Ramadan.
