MEXICO CITY, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez revealed on Friday that he could return to Mexico's national team after almost four years in exile.
The 34-year-old has been banished from the national squad since September 2019 after falling out with former manager Gerardo Martino.
But a conversation with new El Tri boss Diego Cocca has left him confident of a recall.
"I received a call from Diego to inform me that the doors are open for me, as they are for all other Mexican players," the current LA Galaxy player told reporters.
Hernandez is Mexico's all-time leading scorer with 52 goals in 109 international appearances.
Martino parted ways with Mexico in December after the team's failure to progress beyond the group stage at the World Cup in Qatar. He was replaced by fellow Argentine Cocca last month. ■
