U.S. duo Chock/Bates take lead in rhythm dance at figure skating worlds

SAITAMA, Japan, March 24 (Xinhua) -- American duo Madison Chock and Evan Bates led the rhythm dance at the World Figure Skating Championships here on Friday.

Chock and Bates, the world bronze medalists in 2019 and silver winners in the last two editions, led the field of 33 pairs of ice dancers with a personal best of 91.94 points.

Reigning European champions Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri were second on 88.21 points and Canada's Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier, last year's Grand Prix Final champions, were third on 87.34.

The free dance will be held on Saturday.
