LIMA, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Peruvian President Dina Boluarte left Lima on Saturday to deliver humanitarian aid to areas affected by heavy rains following Cyclone Yaku.
In the town of Puerto Pizarro in Tumbes, one of the worst hit departments, she said the government has been working to bring machinery to each municipality amid the crisis.
She pointed out that two helicopters were arranged to mobilize affected families in Tumbes, which received 400 tons of humanitarian aid.
Boluarte also plans to visit other departments affected by the heavy rains, including Piura, Lambayeque and La Libertad, all in the country's northwest.
On Saturday, the National Center for Estimation, Prevention and Reduction of Disaster Risk reported that at least 592 districts in the country's northern coast and highlands are at risk of being affected by landslides caused by the rainfall.
As a result of the heavy rains, a bridge in Casma province in the Ancash region collapsed on Friday, interrupting the Panamericana Norte highway.
According to official reports, heavy rains have so far left four dead in Piura and two dead in Lambayeque. ■
