BERLIN, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Runner-up Borussia Dortmund dropped points in the Bundesliga title race after Schalke came back twice to secure a 2-2 draw in the 100th "Revierderby" in the 24th round on Saturday.

The BVB dominated possession in the opening stages but lacked in accuracy in the final third.

Ralf Fahrmann defused Donyell Malen's close-range attempt at the half-hour mark. But the Schalke keeper was hapless eight minutes later after Raphael Guerreiro teed up for Nico Schlotterbeck, who struck the ball into the bottom right corner to make it 1-0.

Dortmund should have added another goal to its lead, but Malen and Jude Bellingham wasted promising opportunities before the break.

Schalke punished the BVB for their wastefulness five minutes into the second half when Marius Bulter leveled the score following a counterattack through Michael Frey.

Dortmund responded well and grabbed the lead again at the hour mark as Guerreiro hammered home into the top right corner.

The Royal Blues secured a late draw through substitute Kenan Karaman, who nodded home Bulter's cross to flabbergast Dortmund.

Dortmund couldn't hold the pace with leaders Bayern Munich, sitting two points behind in the table.

"We played well in the first half and controlled Schalke as well as the ball. The second half was wild and played into Schalke's hands," said Dortmund coach Edin Terzic.
