JOHANNESBURG, March 10 (Xinhua) -- China's homemade sci-fi blockbuster, "The Wandering Earth II," hit big screens in South Africa Friday.
The much-anticipated sequel to the Chinese sci-fi epic, "The Wandering Earth," is being released in Mandarin with English and Chinese subtitles in 20 theaters in major cities across South Africa.
Directed by Guo Fan and starring Andy Lau, Wu Jing and Li Xuejian, "The Wandering Earth II" tells a story of humanity building enormous engines to propel the earth to a new solar system as the sun is rapidly burning out.
Since being released on Jan. 22, the film has so far grossed a box office of more than 3.9 billion Chinese yuan (about 565 million U.S. dollars) in China, according to box office tracker Maoyan. ■
