GENEVA, March 9 (Xinhua) -- An independent Ethics Panel has suspended former president of the Italian Swimming Federation (FIN) Paolo Barelli for an additional year, the World Aquatics announced on Thursday.

The investigation found the wrongdoings of Barelli, including "claiming and accepting undue payments" and "failure to report a personal interest to the Ethics Panel", the world swimming governing body said in a press release.

"Following consideration of the allegations, the Ethics Panel unanimously decided to impose sanctions that ban Mr. Barelli from taking part in any aquatics-related activities under the auspices of World Aquatics or any of its members," the statement said.

Barelli, also a former FINA Bureau member and former Ligue Europeenne de Natation (LEN) president, will serve his suspension until September 14, 2025.

The Ethics Panel also ordered Barelli to repay all undue payments received.
