COLOMBO, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka will carry out promotion campaigns in key markets to boost international tourist arrivals this year, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) said on Thursday.

Addressing a press event on the campaign, Chairman of the SLTPB Chalaka Gajabahu said these campaigns will help the South Asian country achieve its goal of attracting 1.55 million visitors this year.

He said that due to budget constraints the SLTPB will not carry out a global campaign, instead nine markets that have high potential will be targeted.

The nine targeted markets are Britain, Germany, France, India, China, Australia, Russia, the Middle Eas, and Scandinavia.

The campaign will run between April and May and the bureau was selecting partners in the targeted markets.

Gajabahu said currently Russia, India and Britain are the biggest source markets for incoming tourists and Sri Lanka expects to attract a lot of Chinese tourists.

Tourism is one of Sri Lanka's main sources of foreign revenue.
