HERAT, Afghanistan, March 8 (Xinhua) -- The head of the water supply department of Afghanistan's western Herat province has been confirmed dead along with two of his colleagues as unknown armed men opened fire on their car Wednesday, provincial government spokesman Nisar Ahmad Elias said.
The deadly attack took place in Police District 15 of Herat's provincial capital the Herat city in the morning rush hour, when unknown armed men opened fire on the car of Nader Shah Kakar, provincial director of the water supply department, killing him along with two of his colleagues and injuring two others, the official said.
Without providing more details, the official said an investigation had been initiated into the attack to identify and bring to justice the culprits. ■
