JERUSALEM, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Italian pro road cyclist Domenico Pozzovivo has joined the World Tour Team Israel Premier Tech (IPT), the IPT said in a statement on Tuesday.

The 40-year-old Pozzovivo finished in the top ten overall seven times in the Giro d'Italia between 2008 and 2022 and, in 2012 won the Giro del Trentino, currently known as the Tour of the Alps.

Having signed with IPT, Pozzovivo is set to make his debut at the 2023 Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali race to be held in Italy's Emilia-Romagna region starting March 21.

"Despite his advanced age, Pozzovivo has proven that he has a lot left in the tank," said IPT owner Sylvan Adams. "He will strengthen our team in the Giro and the Italian classics."

Pozzovivo, who rode for the Intermarche-Circus-Wanty team in 2022, said that "the Giro d'Italia is one of the main goals of the season and for me, to be again in top-ten is the goal."
