MADRID, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Argentine-born striker Ezequiel 'Chimy' Avila says he would be delighted to play for Spain if he was given the chance.

The 29-year-old, who plays for Osasuna in La Liga, is reported to have been included in the pre-list of Spain's national team that new coach Luis de la Fuente is considering for his first matches in charge later this month after being named as the replacement for Luis Enrique.

Avila qualified for Spain after never playing for Argentina and after six years in La Liga with Huesca and Osasuna.

Speaking after Osasuna's 0-0 draw with Celta on Monday night, Avila was asked about the chance of playing for Spain.

"I'm really happy to be in the pre-list, but I have to let the coach decide," Avila said.

"I will continue with my work day by day. I won't despair if I'm not picked, but if I get the chance, I will be very proud."

Avila had a very difficult beginning to his career and as a youngster he was even forced to spend a period in the streets recycling used paper and cardboard after being accused of a robbery of which he was later acquitted.

"I have been working for a long time and that work has brought its reward. This country (Spain) opened its doors for my family and myself to live without fear. I am very grateful," he added.
