TEHRAN, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Iran handed down death sentences to six members of the group of Harakat al-Nezal over "terror" activities, Mizan news agency of the Iranian judiciary reported on Monday.
The report said the ruling was issued by the Islamic Revolution court of the southwestern city of Ahvaz, southern Khuzestan Province's capital, and can still be appealed in the supreme court.
The court said the six people are responsible for participating in Harakat al-Nezal's "armed operations" in 2017 and 2018 in Khuzestan, during which the group killed two members of the Basij voluntary force, a police officer and a conscript in separate operations.
The report added the group received its orders from its ringleaders based in European states.
Headquartered in Denmark and the Netherlands, the Harakat al-Nezal group, also known as the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahvaz, was founded in 1999. It has claimed responsibility for several assassinations and attacks against energy infrastructure and civilian targets over the years, according to the website of Iran's High Council for Human Rights.
The group is currently classified as a terrorist organization by the Iranian government. ■
