THE HAGUE, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Daniil Medvedev won the 50th edition of the ABN Amro Open tennis tournament in Rotterdam on Sunday by beating Italian Jannik Sinner.
In an exciting and high-level final in the Ahoy stadium, the 27-year-old Russian Medvedev, ranked 11th on the ATP world ranking, beat 21-year-old Sinner, world No. 14, in three sets 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
Sinner, who won the ATP event in Montpellier, France last week and had won seven of his previous eight finals, started well against Medvedev and had a decisive break on 6-5 in the first set.
The fight continued in the following two sets with several long, beautiful rallies. However, the Russian was just a little more thorough and grabbed his 16th title in his 28th ATP final. ■
