TASHKENT, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan plans to commission solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 4,300 megawatts by year's end, a presidential decree released Friday said.
It further said the Uzbek government will allocate 15.4 billion U.S. dollars to renewable energy source projects, which include the funds of investors within the framework of public-private partnership projects.
If implemented, the projects would save up to 4.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually for the country.
The document also envisages incentives for foreign partners, domestic entities and individual households to use renewable energy sources and install solar panels to generate electricity. They can sell the surplus energy to the state at a fixed price or at a higher price to private consumers upon mutual agreement. ■
