TEHRAN, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Iran announced Friday that main perpetrators of a recent "foiled" drone attack on a facility of its Defense Ministry in the central Iranian city of Isfahan have been arrested.

According to a joint statement issued by the Iranian Intelligence Ministry and the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), these people were responsible for an "unsuccessful act of sabotage" against a facility of the Iranian Defense Ministry on Jan. 28.

The Intelligence Ministry and the IRGC managed to identify and seize these people in close cooperation, said the statement published on the ministry's website, adding that they were under interrogation.

The ministry claimed that "Israel's mercenaries'" involvement in the act of sabotage has been proved, vowing that "any aggression" against the country would receive a punitive response from the Iranian armed forces.

On Jan. 29, the Iranian Defense Ministry announced that there were no casualties in the drone attack, which had taken place at about 11:30 p.m. local time (2000 GMT) the night before and caused minor damage to the roof of a workshop at the facility.

The semi-official Nour News agency, affiliated with Iran's Supreme National Security Council, reported on Jan. 31 that Iran had identified the manufacturer of one of the drones used in the attack, without providing more details.

In another report one day later, Nour News wrote that the drone parts and explosives were transferred into the country by "hostile terrorist groups" based in the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

The transfer were made through the northwestern border at the order of a foreign intelligence service to a workshop in a border city, Nour News reported, citing unidentified sources.
