UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was saddened to learn of the passing of Pakistan's former president Pervez Musharraf, his spokesman said on Sunday.
"The secretary-general conveys his deepest condolences to the family of the former president and the people of Pakistan," Guterres' spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a statement.
"Former President Musharraf led Pakistan at a critical time, during which the country witnessed steady economic growth," added the statement.
Pakistan's former president and army chief General Pervez Musharraf passed away in a hospital in Dubai after a prolonged illness on Sunday, Pakistan's military confirmed. ■
