SHIRAZ, Iran, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Persepolis, whose magnificent ruins rest at the foot of Kuh-e Rahmat (Mountain of Mercy) in southern Iran, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The main structure of Persepolis embraces grand halls, throne rooms and stairways, each with delicate architectural features.

It was the capital of the Achaemenid Empire of Persia (550-330 BC). The importance and quality of the monumental ruins make it a unique archaeological site.
