MOSCOW, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Russian frigate Admiral Gorshkov successfully conducted exercises with Tsirkon hypersonic cruise missiles in the western part of the Atlantic Ocean, the Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday.
The frigate practiced its strike capabilities by launching a Tsirkon hypersonic missile at a sea target imitating a mock enemy ship located at a distance of more than 900 km, it said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier that the Tsirkon missile is capable of flying at Mach 9 or nine times the speed of sound and striking a target over 1,000 km away. ■
