BANGKOK, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations skyrocketed by 458.33 percent from a year earlier to 2,680 units in December 2022, boosted by the government's supportive policy, data showed Tuesday.

The new registrations were mainly BEV passenger cars and motorcycles, which saw a year-on-year increase of 820 percent and 266.22 percent, respectively, according to data from the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).

In 2022, the BEV registration totaled 20,815, up 274.64 percent from one year earlier, with passenger cars recording a 395.78-percent rise to 9,643 units, according to the FTI.

The strong growth came amid the Thai government's efforts to build Thailand into an electric vehicle (EV) production hub and make EVs account for 30 percent of its total auto production by 2030.

To encourage the use of EVs, the government unveiled supportive schemes last year, including subsidies for vehicle purchases and tax incentives for EV imports.
