TEHRAN, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Iranian people on Friday held rallies in different cities in condemnation of interference by some Western governments, particularly those of France, Germany, and Britain, in the country's internal affairs, according to official news agency IRNA.
The protestors, who staged the rallies after Friday prayers, also denounced French magazine Charlie Hebdo's insult to Iran's religious and political authority.
In a statement issued at the end of the rallies, the Iranian people condemned the interference by France, Britain and Germany in Iran's internal affairs and these states' support for the "rioters" in the country over the past weeks.
They also called on the Iranian government and foreign ministry to adopt all legal measures to retaliate against the French magazine's action of insulting Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Charlie Hebdo has published caricatures, seen as "insulting" by Iranian authorities, of Iran's top leader, drawing firm condemnations and reactions from Tehran.
Protests have erupted in Iran after 22-year-old woman Mahsa Amini died in a Tehran hospital on Sept. 16, 2022, a few days after her collapse at a police station. Iran has accused the United States and some other Western countries of "inciting riots and supporting terrorists" in the country. ■
