China has sent a 25-member team to compete in 11 events at the 31st Winter World University Games in Lake Placid.
WASHINGTON, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- The 31st Winter World University Games opened in Lake Placid, the United States on Thursday.
The Winter World University Games is the largest winter multi-sport collegiate athletic event in the world. A total of 1,443 athletes from 46 countries and regions will take part in the Winter Universiade, which features 86 events across 12 disciplines, according to the International University Sports Federation (FISU) website.
The 25-member Chinese team will compete in 11 events in short-track speed skating, women's curling and snowboarding. Han Yu, a curler from Beijing Sport University, was China's flag bearer at the opening ceremony.
"I will try my best to achieve good results," said Han, also captain of the curling team. "Our opponents are very strong, especially Canada, the United States, Sweden and Japan."

The Chinese curling team arrived in Lake Placid to prepare for their opening match against Spain last Friday. China will take part in all nine events of short-track speed skating competition which begins on January 19. Chinese snowboarders will participate in the parallel giant slalom on January 21.
The 2023 Winter Universiade runs from January 12 to 22, featuring alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, Nordic combined, short-track speed skating, ski jumping, snowboarding and speed skating events.
