WUHAN, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Central China's Hubei Province expects its GDP to grow at 6.5 percent in 2023, Hubei governor Wang Zhonglin said on Friday.
The province's GDP is estimated to surpass 5 trillion yuan (743 billion U.S. dollars) last year, marking a growth of about 4.7 percent, Wang said as he delivered the government work report at the annual session of the provincial people's congress.
Despite the hardship caused by COVID-19, Wang said Hubei in 2022 launched the construction of 11,377 major projects with an investment of over 100 million yuan each, a record in history.
The province aims to promote new industries and boost the output of new-energy vehicles in 2023. It will also start to lay out future industries such as quantum information, brain science, and metaverse, said the governor. ■
