NEW DELHI, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- India is planning to carry out a 6,000-meter deep sea mission in the next three years for exploration of deep sea resources like minerals, Minister of Science and Technology Jitendra Singh said on Thursday.
He said a special vehicle "Matsya" (meaning "Fish" in Hindi language) will carry three people into the deep seas for the mission.
The Indian government has already approved the Deep Ocean Mission with a total budget of 40.77 billion Indian rupees (around 500 million U.S. dollars) for the next five years.
Singh said the deep sea mission heralds India ushering into an era of "Blue Economy", which is going to play a major part in boosting the country's overall economy during the years to come. ■
