LHASA, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- The number of 5G users in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region hit 798,100 by November 2022, an increase of 131,900 from the end of the previous year, local authorities said.

As of November 2022, there were 8,099 5G base stations in Tibet, according to the regional communications administration.

Tibet's telecommunications industry logged a steady expansion, with emerging businesses and new infrastructure growing in number.

In the first 11 months of 2022, the sector's total business volume hit 5.52 billion yuan (about 815 million U.S. dollars), up 15.01 percent year on year when calculated using the constant price of the previous year.

In recent years, Tibet has been promoting 5G network applications and technologies in education, medical care, transportation and logistics.

China's 5G base stations neared 2.29 million in number by the end of November. Tibet launched its first 5G base station in 2019.
