TEHRAN, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The managing director of Iran's Infrastructure Communication Company said on Friday that a "massive cyberattack" on the Central Bank of Iran has been defeated, Tasnim News Agency reported.

"Last night, the central bank was targeted by Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, and they were repelled," Amir Mohammadzadeh Lajvardi, also the special representative of the Iranian minister on cyber security, was quoted by the report as saying.

"These days, the largest volume of foreign cyberattacks are directed at banks and financial institutions, internet providers, and communication infrastructure," he said, adding all the attempts have been foiled.

On Nov. 21, 2022, Iran said a cyberattack on Iran's Mahan Airlines had been thwarted. In October 2021, a cyberattack caused disruption in the fueling systems at some Iranian gas stations.
