TOKYO, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- A 212-kg bluefin tuna has been sold for 36.04 million yen (about 271,500 U.S. dollars) in the first auction of the year at Tokyo's Toyosu fish market in Japan.
Lively tuna auctions are held at the market during the country's new year holiday, attracting not only Japanese people but also fans of Japanese cuisine around the world.
Since old times, it is believed in Japan that eating seasonal ingredients first will bring good luck, which is one of the most important factors for the obsession of Japanese people with the first tuna auction of the year.
