WARSAW, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Poland's Tatra Ski Association said on Monday that the ski jumping FIS Cup competition in Zakopane that had been scheduled for January 7-8 has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
Record high temperatures for January brought a thaw in Poland as thermometers showed over 10 degrees Celsius for days. The host nation also wants to save the snow accumulated in the winter for the FIS World Cup event scheduled for January 14-15 at Wielka Krokiew ski jumping hill.
In 2022, the association also decided to cancel the FIS Cup in order to prepare the hill for World Cup competitions.
The FIS Cup contest in Zakopane was to be the only one in the fourth FIS Cup period in the 2022-2023 season. For this reason, none of the national teams will win additional starting places for the Continental Cup competitions in Sapporo, Japan (January 14-15) and Bischofshofen, Austria (January 21-22). ■
