BUENOS AIRES, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Argentine midfielder Nacho Fernandez has rejoined former club River Plate on a three-year contract after parting ways with Atletico Mineiro, the Buenos Aires side said on Thursday.
The 32-year-old, who had a year remaining on his Atletico contract, is expected to begin training with his new teammates early next month.
"Accompanied by the president, Jorge Brito ... Ignacio Fernandez signed an agreement with River that runs until December 2025," a River Plate statement read.
Fernandez helped Atletico Mineiro to the 2021 Brazilian Serie A and Copa do Brazil titles during his two-year spell in Brazil.
In his first spell at River Plate, Fernandez helped the club to the 2018 Copa Libertadores title. ■
