SANAA, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- An Omani delegation arrived here on Wednesday to hold a meeting with leaders of the Houthi rebels on the UN-brokered nationwide ceasefire in Yemen, Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported.
The Omani delegation was received by Mohammed Abdulsalam, the chief negotiator of the rebel group, the report said, without elaborating further.
Oman, which borders both Yemen and Saudi Arabia, has been actively engaged in brokering a truce between the Houthi rebels and the Yemeni government that is supported by Saudi Arabia.
In October, the internationally recognized Yemeni government and the Houthi group failed to extend a six-month national truce that had expired on Oct. 2, raising concerns about the return of violent conflicts to the Arab country.
Yemen has been mired in a civil war since late 2014 when the Houthi group seized control of several northern cities and forced the Saudi-backed Yemeni government out of the capital Sanaa.
The war has killed tens of thousands of people, displaced 4 million, and pushed the country to the brink of starvation. ■
