WASHINGTON, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. House select committee investigating the Capitol riot of Jan. 6, 2021, is holding its final public session Monday afternoon.

The committee is expected to vote on its final report, which will be released to the public on Wednesday.

The panel will reportedly make criminal referrals to the U.S. Department of Justice for potential prosecution.

But the criminal referrals would not be legally binding, and it is up to the Department of Justice to decide whether to pursue charges.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly lashed out at the panel and its members made up of seven Democrats and two Republicans.

On Jan. 6, 2021, Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in Washington, D.C., and disrupted a joint session of Congress to affirm the 2020 presidential election results.

Approximately 140 police officers were assaulted in the mayhem to which at least five deaths have been linked.

Over 900 individuals have been arrested in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the Capitol, according to data released by the Department of Justice.
