LANZHOU, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- A former animal husbandry technician has devoted himself to preserving plant biodiversity in Sunan Yugur Autonomous County in northwest China's Gansu Province.
An Guoqing, in the past 18 years, has done intensive field survey in Qilian Mountains and compiled two illustrated handbooks of local plant species.
Sunan Yugur Autonomous County has a total area of 23, 800 square kilometers, boasting abundant plant resources. However, its treacherous mountainous roads make it difficult to do field research.
In his books, An records over 1,300 plant species, making great contribution to the biodiversity protection work in Qilian Mountains.
