DAMASCUS, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Shining Christmas decorations illuminate the Syrian capital Damascus ahead of the festival season, despite a deepening economic crisis in the war-torn country.

Dessert shops are busy preparing Christmas-shaped chocolate while vendors in a Christmas Market are displaying various kinds of gifts, which may deliver Syrians' good wishes for the upcoming new year.
