COLOMBO, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Over 70 people were injured after a fire broke out at an accommodation block in industrial island K. Gulhifalhu of the Maldives on Friday, local media reported.
A police spokesperson was quoted by local media as saying that the fire was reported to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), and firefighters were immediately dispatched to the site.
Police said 76 people have been hospitalized with injuries and six of them were seriously injured.
The cause of the fire has not been known yet but the police are investigating the incident, the local media reported. ■
