HANOI, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Gongs are a special kind of musical instrument made of brass alloy or a mixture of bronze and silver. Gongs represent wealth and power. It plays a vital role in a variety of ceremonies related to agriculture, life, and the community of ethnic groups in the central highlands of Vietnam.

The gongs are popular among ethnic groups in the five central highland provinces of Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Kon Tum, Gia Lai and Lam Dong. It was recognized as a masterpiece of the oral and intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO in 2005, before being inscribed on the list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2008.
