RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Flamengo have appointed Portuguese Vitor Pereira as their head coach for Brazil's 2023 domestic football season, the Rio de Janeiro side said on Tuesday.
The 54-year-old replaces Dorival Junior, who resigned last month after guiding Flamengo to the 2022 Copa Libertadores title, South America's premier club competition.
Flamengo made the announcement with a brief message on social media, without providing details of Pereira's contract.
Pereira was without a club after parting ways with Flamengo's Brazilian Serie A rivals Corinthians in November.
The former Porto, Olympiacos and Shanghai SIPG boss led the Sao Paulo club to 26 wins, 21 draws and 17 losses. ■
