JERUSALEM, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Israel has completed tests of its "Iron Fist" system that can protect armored vehicles from anti-tank missiles and other battlefield threats, the Defense Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

The active protection system could provide "360-degree coverage against multi-range threats in open and urban environments," according to the ministry.

Developed by Israeli defense electronics company Elbit Systems, Iron Fist includes an electro-optic sensor suit, searching and tracking radar, and a reaction suit with launchers and interceptors.

It could neutralize threats at a safe distance from armored personnel carriers (APCs), and help combatants locate hostile fires.

The system would be fitted out on Eitan, a homegrown armored fighting vehicle still in development, and D9 bulldozers, head of the ministry's Tank and APC Directorate Oren Giber said in the statement.

The system is part of "the Ground Forces' efforts to enhance protection measures for forces on the battlefield," Israeli Ground Forces Chief of Staff Aviram Sela was quoted as saying.
