DOHA, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- The England team have returned home after the World Cup without the trophy after their narrow quarterfinal defeat to France on Saturday, but defenders John Stones and Kyle Walker have at least made a new friend.

The Manchester City duo befriended one of the many stray cats that live in Qatar and after a month, they decided they had become too attached to him to leave him.

The duo named the cat 'Dave' and Dave was taken to a local veterinary clinic for tests and for vaccinations and he is now on his way to England, where he will have to spend four months in quarantine before going to his new home.

"He was just there one day so we've just adopted him, me and Stonesy," said Walker on the FA's official website.

"First day we got there ... Dave pops out," commented Stones. "Every night he's sat there waiting for his food," he added

Another cat made headlines at the World Cup. One sat on the desk in the Media Center as Brazil forward Vinicius Jr was giving a press conference and the Brazil press officer was criticized after picking the animal up by the scruff of the neck and dropping it unceremoniously to the floor.

Walker has a different attitude. "Dave is welcome to the table ... Some people really don't like the cat, but I love him," he said.
