NAIROBI, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese smart accessories firm Oraimo on Saturday donated Christmas gifts that included foodstuff and sanitary pads to women in Nairobi's Kibera slums.
The ceremony was held at the ground of St. Christine School with dozens of women and girls from the slum in attendance.
"We hope to donate some food and daily necessities and they can really use it for Christmas day," said Kevin Zhang, retail manager at Oraimo. He said Oraimo was committed to helping Kibera residents realize their dreams despite financial constraints.
A clean-up exercise was also conducted to raise Kibera residents' awareness of keeping the surrounding area clean.
The exercise included dredging ditches and sweeping the alleyways and roads. Beneficiaries of the donations appreciated the company's kind effort in helping them enjoy Christmas festivities.
Betty Wakesho, a mother who lives in Kibera expressed her gratitude. "I didn't have anything in terms of home needs. This donation has come at the right time for me. I am grateful I have received something to celebrate during the festive season." ■
