FREETOWN, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Confucius Institute at the University of Sierra Leone on Saturday marked the 10th anniversary of operation in Sierra Leone.
Jing Man, Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Sierra Leone, said that since 2012, the institute has set up 20 teaching sites as the number of registered students rapidly increased.
"The influence of the Confucius Institute in Sierra Leone has increased and it now plays an important role in promoting the Chinese language and culture in the country," she said.
Jing said that the institute will continue to offer scholarships to students for further studies in China and to provide more job opportunities for Sierra Leoneans to work in the institute.
In his speech, Sarjoh Aziz Kamara, Sierra Leone's Deputy Minister of Technical and Higher Education, said the institute has served as a great medium of mutual understanding between the two countries.
Mohamed Sheriff, a representative of the University of Sierra Leone, said the university would render full support to the institute to achieve greater successes. ■
