ISTANBUL, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak discussed steps to enhance ties and a series of regional issues during a phone call, the Turkish Directorate of Communications said on Friday.
Erdogan and Sunak discussed the steps that should be taken to improve the bilateral ties in various fields, especially in the trade and defense industry, the directorate said in a statement.
Erdogan said that he hopes the relations between the two NATO allies will continue under the guidance of common sense and a (shared) strategic perspective.
Addressing several regional issues, he stressed that all parties would benefit from the re-establishment of the grounds for negotiation between Russia and Ukraine.
The Turkish leader also pointed to the importance of new and concrete steps to solve the Cyprus issue, according to the statement. ■
