BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- President of Xinhua News Agency Fu Hua met with Daisy Veerasingham, president of the Associated Press (AP), via video link in Beijing on Thursday.
Noting that this year marks the 50th anniversary of cooperation between the two sides, Fu said Xinhua is ready to work with the AP to continue covering stories about China-U.S. relations in a comprehensive, objective and accurate manner, in order to add positive energy to efforts that bring bilateral ties back to the track of sound and steady growth.
While briefing his AP counterpart on the goals and tasks set forward at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Fu said Chinese modernization is bound to provide more opportunities for the world.
Xinhua is willing to enhance cooperation with the AP to earnestly fulfill duties and serve as a bridge that facilitates mutual understanding among people of all countries, he said.
During the meeting, Veerasingham extended her condolences on the passing of Comrade Jiang Zemin, for which Fu expressed thanks.
Veerasingham said that sound China-U.S. relations are important for the world. The AP has had long-term cooperation with Xinhua, and it expects further communications and cooperation in various fields between the two sides. ■
