MACAO, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- A total of 70 meeting, incentive, conference and exhibition (MICE) events were held in Macao in the third quarter, a decrease of one year on year, the special administrative region (SAR)'s statistics service said on Friday.
The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that the number of participants and attendees surged by 50.8 percent to 341,000.
A total of 57 meetings and conferences were held in the third quarter, the same as in the same period of last year. However, the number of participants decreased by 3.5 percent to 6,097. The average duration of the meetings and conferences shortened by 0.1 day year on year to 0.9 day, said the report.
The number of exhibitions in the third quarter went down by one year on year to 12, with the number of exhibitions organized by non-government organizations remaining at 11. The number of attendees leapt by 52.5 percent to 334,000.
The exhibitions in the third quarter attracted 1,336 exhibitors and 3,826 professional visitors, showed the report.
In accordance with information collected from 613 interviewed exhibitors, 94.8 percent of their receipts were mainly generated from sales of goods, whereas their expenditure was mainly incurred on rental paid for exhibition booths and booth installation and decoration. ■
