ADEN, Yemen, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Prime Minister Maeen Abdul-Malik said on Monday that the Houthi rebels' escalation of attacks threaten ongoing peace efforts in the war-ravaged Arab country.
In his meeting with the United States Ambassador in Yemen Stephen Fagin, Abdul-Malik said that the repeated Houthi attacks on crude oil export terminals might abort the ongoing efforts aimed at achieving peace and alleviating the country's humanitarian crisis, the state-run Saba news agency reported.
During the meeting at the presidential palace in the southern port city of Aden, high-ranking Yemeni military officials and ministers called for resolute international action in response to the Houthi militia's "terrorist attacks" on crude oil export ports, according to the report.
They noted that the Houthis' dangerous escalation is also threatening the safety of international navigation and could adversely affect all situations.
Earlier in the day, Yemen's Houthi group launched another drone attack on an oil port controlled by the country's government in the southeastern province of Hadramout.
A bomb-laden Houthi drone targeted the oil port of Dhabah in Hadramout but caused no casualties or property damage because the government forces have already beefed up the defense of the port after previous drone attacks.
Yemen's economic facilities, particularly oil ports controlled by the Saudi-backed Yemeni government, are facing a heightened threat of Houthi militia's missile attacks just a month after the expiration of a UN-brokered truce on Oct. 2.
Yemen has been mired in a civil war since late 2014 when the Iran-backed Houthi militia stormed several northern cities and forced the Saudi-backed Yemeni government out of the capital, Sanaa. ■
